Description
A handmade wool mobile featuring a fairy and tiny felted books, inspired by storytelling, the wisdom of nature, and the strength of staying true to yourself. Hang it above a reading nook, in a child’s room, or in a quiet corner that needs a little magic, in soft indirect light.
The story behind the creation
This is not really my story. It is the story of a fairy girl turning twelve, whose loves include books. I had already started felting little books for another artwork when I asked her dear mother what she loved. The answer was… Books!!!! Immediately, an entire world appeared in my mind.
Deep within an ancient and mysterious forest, beyond a hidden gate, lives the Fairy of Books. She writes and creates the reality of the forest and all its inhabitants — not through the power of the pen, but through the power of thought and word. She creates truths from imagination and preserves them through the wind that blows from the pages of her books.
The wind is the living spirit of her willpower and life force. Through it she creates the autumn leaves carried upon the wind, whispering the secrets of the forest; the rays of light sparkling in drops of dew; and magical creatures not yet revealed to our eyes. Even the owls, guardians of ancient wisdom, sometimes come to seek her counsel.
A message for the journey ahead
The age of twelve, as I see it, symbolizes something whole: Now I am whole. Now I am ready. And now I am coming into the world.
The Fairy of Wind and Books reminds us that our authenticity and the forces of our will do not depend on anything outside of us. She teaches us to remain faithful to who we truly are, and to follow our inner voice without compromise. Perhaps this is the greatest magic of all: to know who you are, to trust the strength within you, and to bring your own unique light into the world. 💜
